Artists: kirghisia
kirghisia
I have been an active practitioner since 2001, working on several projects often in collaboration with other artists, scientists and radio amateurs.
I studied Fine Arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. Here I graduated in Painting, however the confined and solitary studio work soon proved to be a limitation to my artistic practice rather than enhancing it. In 1998 I moved to the UK where I lived for more than a decade, continuing my studies and developing my artistic practice.
In 2003 I completed a Master Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Plymouth and since 2005 I have been lecturing in Art & Design.
I regularly participate in several artists residencies programs, including HIAP in Finland and Kaus Australis in The Netherlands. I have widely shown my work internationally, including the UK, Italy, The Netherlands, France, Bulgaria, Finland, Brazil and Mexico.
Since 2009 I have been collaborating with a team of scientists and radio amateurs based at Dwingeloo radio telescope in The Netherlands for the making of OPTICKS which I have shown in several festivals and science outreach events, including Starts Night -in collaboration with ESA and the Holland Space Center- and Global Astronomy Month 2011 in collaboration with Astronomers Without Borders. OPTICKS will be also shown in October 2011 at the science centre Museon in The Hague (NL).
I am currently a PhD student at Leiden University, developing my ongoing research on the connection between Art and Science.
